Hats for the Homeless 2011 is open and accepting hats!

The deadline to participate in this project is Thursday, December 1, 2011.

1. Knit a hat. Think "a big, warm hat to pull down over your ears." You may use any weight yarn that you wish. Wool yarn is recommended, as Minnesota winters are cold. All hat patterns are welcome, but please see our list of suggested patterns based on feedback from the recipients.

a.) Tip for all sizes of hats: Err on the side of making it too big. Add a few extra stitches or inches to the original circumference of the hat. A hat that's a little big can still work, but a too small hat doesn't help much.

b.) Tip for women's/teen's hats: Color and pattern are appreciated. This is a great category to get creative.

c.) Tip for men's hats: Solid, dark, "plain" hats are required in this category. For two years now, the homeless gentlemen we've spoken with have all concurred: "We don't like patterns or colors on our hats!" It's best to avoid even some "manly" colors like forest green striping against navy blue. The navy blue alone is a better choice! Gray, brown, navy blue, army green or black are all preferred colors for the men.

2. Deliver your hat to:
